Una chica de Estados Unidos ha estado en Chile durante algún tiempo y ya cerca de abandonar el país, escribió una lista de lo que extrañará y lo que no. La lista es curiosa: el saludo de beso en la mejilla, el colorido de los billetes y hasta “los comentarios y sonidos de beso de los hombres en todos lados, especialmente del edificio en construcción en su única ruta posible al metro”. 

I know i make lists on my tumblr all the time, but my friend caleb’s recent post about finishing up his study abroad in russia  has inspired me to make a few more. 

Things i will miss the most about chile:

• the kiss on the cheek greeting
• my friends
• the sunshine & abundance of daylight hours
• my host family
• speaking spanish
• the public transport
• the colorful money
• the wine & being able to drink legally
• the fresh produce
• the CIEE santiago staff
• the mountains
• traveling anywhere & everywhere; exploring this country & south america

Things i will not miss about chile:

• comments & kiss-y noises from men everywhere, especially the building that’s under construction on my only possible route to the metro
• taking a number to print at school, at the pharmacy, & basically everywhere else
• the absurd amount of plastic bags & receipts 
• the food: bland & unhealthy & not vegetarian friendly
• the springs of my bed digging into my back & the lumpy pillows making my neck ache every morning
• the coin toss of whether or not a bathroom will have toilet paper
• being stepped on/bumped into/generally having my personal space disrespected daily
• having to commute 45 minutes to get basically anywhere
• the busywork feeling of the academics here
• my stupid brick cell phone
